Project 1 : Dynamic Compositions

received_415858735427300-1

In my design the primary focal point is a circle which looks like a heptagon on the left of the paper. I have mostly used straight lines and my focal point is emphasized because it is in a circular shape. The principles of design that I have utilized are repetition, balance, focal point and alignment to create a unified composition. My composition achieves symmetrical balance because the design elements like, lines and shapes implies formality and stability. I have used pitt pens to create thick and thin lines, mounted my drawing to Bristol board and clicked a picture of it in a good lighted area of my home. I think I can improve this design by adding some more thick lines.

Project 2: Repetition, Photography, and the Grid

20170211_200559-1

My design utilizes repetition, visually because the objects that I have photographed are different kind of books but somehow these books make connections in terms of shape, size, color and space. The pictures in my design utilize the grid as an organizational tool, and they are placed right next to each other, with no border and space. In my design I have utilize unity and harmony between the photographed objects so that the design look pleasing and combined. To establish visual flow, I have utilize repetition and converging lines which helps to move the viewers eye through the picture plane. Some people look towards books just as an ordinary thing but this design can change the way the viewers interprets the photographed object because of  colorful and vibrant book covers. I can improve this design by adding more different sizes of books.

project 3: Variation of Line

The primary focal point in this design is located on the left side of the paper, which looks like an arrow head, located in the left side of the triangular shape, and it is emphasized by the use of thick black line. This design utilizes principles of designs like repetition of lines and shapes, directional flow, unity, harmony and balance which lead the eye around the entire picture plane. The lines in the design are both thick, thin, curved, straight and lines of boxes which represent the character of happiness, confidence and straight. I have utilized overlapping and linear perspective to create a sense of space.I can improve this design by creating more curvy lines in the design.

Project 4: Directional Dominance

received_425824161097424-1

The primary focal point is located on the bottom left of the paper, almost in the middle. It is the half circle, next to where all the lines meet, and it is emphasized by making gradation. Unity, harmony, repetition of lines, proximity, balance and directional lines have been utilized to create a unified composition; which helps the viewers eye to move around the whole picture plane. In this design, almost all of the lines are going diagonal which establish a directional dominance, and there are some small areas like, in the right side of the paper in which some lines are going opposite to each other, which establish a directional conflict. The design include lines which are at some places are placed closely together to form a full range and some are placed with little gap between them which forms expanded space. I can improve this design by adding more thin lines and more directional conflict in my design.

Project 5: Black and White Shape Compositions

20170303_172434-1

Figure is defined as the piece of art or an object which is drawn on the paper or the positive space, and the negative space which is the background of the picture, is known as ground. When positive shapes combine together they may be designed to create figure and ground relationships with the negative space. In this composition, figure and ground relationships are most evident in the center of the paper, where the four of the smaller shapes meet together to form a mirror image, similarly; in the top right and left corner of the paper. To improve this design I would change smaller shapes with larger one’s to create more visual flow.

Project 6: Tactile and Visual Texture

received_435340016812505-1

The visual texture in my design is smooth, rough and a peacock feather which is smooth and silky. I have used different nib sizes of pen, hatching, repetition of lines and shapes to create full range of value. I can improve this design by adding more dark shades so that it will have a prominent range of value.

Project 7: Organizing the Random

20170325_185552-1

My design words are rhythm, directional conflict and biomorphic shapes. And my unconventional material is thread. My design includes biomorphic shapes in which I have used thread to create lines. This piece includes a full a range of value and different types of lines which are thick and thin; however, it do not include marks but contains thin lines in between the thick lines which works for mark making. The design includes biomorphic shapes, directional flow, harmony , proximity, directional conflict and rhythm which conveys the concept. I can improve the design by adding more shapes.

Project 8: Value- Self Portrait Collage

received_447015988978241-1

This piece include full range of value which are; at least 9 values, from light to dark. I think in the nose and lip area the portrait  successfully break each value into flat plane.  I properly utilize the grid to locate the correct placement of all shapes and values to maintain my facial proportions. To improve this portrait I will work on my left eye, which is slightly dark as compared to the right one, to make it more proportional.

Project 9: Color Studies

A hue is the element of the color wheel and also a property of color whereas color is the element of art that is produced when light strikes an object.  A tint is produce by adding white color to a hue and to produce a shade, we add black paint. An analogous color scheme include three hues that are placed right next to each other on the color wheel. Colors which are placed opposite to each other on the color wheel such as red and green are known as complementary colors. When two complements are mixed together such as red and green in equal proportions, we get a gray hue. Simultaneous contrast refers to the manner in which the colors of two different objects affect each other. The effect is more noticeable when shared between objects of complementary colors such as purple and orange. Saturation is the intensity of color also, called as the purity of a hue. We can de-saturate a color by adding a complementary color or by adding gray color.

Project 10: Utilizing Color Schemes

My monochromatic painting utilize different values from light to dark as a compositional tool. My analogous painting utilize color as a compostional tool by placing bright among light , and also dark values and hues among light. The complementary painting utilize simultaneous contrast because the complements are placed right next to each other which help each other to make contrast and pop. By mixing complements we get a neutral gray tone which is placed right next to the lights of complements which helps them to utilize contrast and it also help some areas of the painting to come out. I can improve this by adding more contrast to my paintings.

Final project

20170506_181637-1

The primary focal point in my design is located on the left side of the paper. It is the smallest cube in the red color and it is emphasized by using simultaneous contrast and complementary color schemes. The focal point is according to the rule of thirds but it is located downward. Moreover, the focal point is emphasized by light among dark and contrast. The principle of designs that are utilized to create unity and harmony are focal point, balance, repetition, contrast and alignment. Balance is created through making the some cubes smaller and larger among each other and also some shapes that are red in color which makes contrast. The repetition is established through the continuation of cubes which makes it look like a pattern. Among all this, there is also the breaking down of the pattern on almost the top of design which makes it look more interesting and also helps viewers eye to move around the whole picture plane. This design creates the illusion of space by overlapping of the cubes and also because of some directional lines in the background. It also creates an illusion of space by the color temperature; warm and cool. The overall design looks like a complementary color schemes but the cube pattern in painted all in monochromatic and for the background and focal point analogous and complementary color schemes have been utilized.

The concept of my design is adaptable. The design conveys the concept of adaptable by the use of colors and patterns. The colors that I have utilized are mostly complementary which looks adaptable in our environment. The cubic pattern is overlapping on other cubes which look like the cubes are flipping which makes it look adaptable.

The design demonstrates an understanding of repetition, focal point, balance, repetition, contrast and alignment. The design also demonstrates an understanding of complementary colors simultaneous contrast, color temperature, and value. I have tried my best to give attention to detail and craftsmanship.  I think the design overall coveys the meaning of an adaptable environment. I think I can improve this design by adding more cool temperature colors into the design.
